KEANE

Jesse’s best of 2010 30 December 2010

Hello everyone. Hope you had a lovely Christmas (if you’re into that sort of thing). As promised, here are the answers to our Best of 2010 questions from Keane’s live bassist, Mr Jesse Quin.

1. Favourite album of 2010?
The new Beach House one, or Laura Marling’s second album, or the new Arcade Fire one. ANYONE involved with any of those albums is an artistic wizard as far as I’m concerned.

2. Favourite single?
I haven’t kept up with the singles situation at all I’m afraid. Power by Kanye. That was a single wasn’t it? Very, very, super, awesome.

3. Best gig you saw?
Pavement from the side of stage at a festival in Montreal, Canada. Unbelievable dream come true. Or The Pogues at Brixton for the third time. "You’re the measure of my dreams". Beautiful.

4. Best gig you played?
The House Of Blues gig in Las Vegas was by far my favourite. The equipment kept breaking but it was quite exciting for some reason. Having to jump between instruments because one would stop working. Plus the crowd were insanely up for it. Friday night in Vegas. I felt like the fat, hairy guy from The Hangover.

5. Best film you saw?
Synecdoche, New York and Tell No One have really stuck in my mind. Both are AMAZING.

6. Best journey you made?
Riding back from the test centre after passing my motorcycle test was a pretty good journey.

7. Best TV show you watched?
I watched all of Brideshead Revisited which was really good. Psychoville was also brilliant.

8. Best meal you ate?
Breakfast in Seattle sticks in my memory. Any meal in America always feels special for some reason. I had breakfast on my own in the Noho Star in NYC the other day and just sat and read the paper and drank lots of coffee. It felt like the most glorious thing ever.

9. Best book you read?
I read ALL of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books and loved every single syllable of all of them. At the moment I’m reading A Farewell To Arms by Hemmingway and Across The Great Divide which is about The Band. I’m really enjoying both of them.

10. Best thing you bought yourself?
A Triumph Bonneville T100 motorcycle.

11. Best thing someone else bought for you?
My wife gave me a beautiful old typewriter that I’m rather fond of. She also bought me a very old looking globe which is pretty wonderful.

12. Best website you visited?
Someone introduced me to stumbleupon which is a very addictive and unproductive way of frittering away your life. Please forgive me.

13. Best thing that happened in 2010 for Keane?
An ep making it to number one is kind of a big deal isn’t it?

14. Best thing that happened in 2010 for you?
2010.

15. Finally, what are you looking forward to in 2011?
All kinds of beautiful and mysterious, secret things.
