“The subliminal message of every other TV show and news story seems to be that the peak of human achievement is to win Celebrity Big Brother or be papped leaving Boujis. Our cultural obsession with fame is so deep-rooted now that we could all be forgiven for thinking that our achievements are worthless unless they’re televised and talked about. Better Than This is a protest song, a rambling exhortation to stop worshipping at the altar of Heat magazine and celebrate the immense beauty of human life and the many miraculous achievements that go unnoticed and uncelebrated every day.”
