2024 has been a hugely reflective and special year for us and we are so touched that many of you have celebrated with us. We are so excited to round off the year by announcing our brand new hardback book Hopes and Fears: Lyrics and History which will be released on 28th November, 2024.
We have spent time working through old notebooks, set lists from the time and writing about those moments which have lead us to where we are now.
We’re so very proud of this book – what it contains and what it represents. We were a band for many years before Hopes and Fears came out – and best friends for many more years before that. So this beautiful book feels like a chance to untangle why we became the band we are and how that first album took shape. To me it’s both moving and hilarious to see evidence of the cogs turning, ideas slowly taking shape, each of our personalities playing a vital role in our different ways. Richard’s detailed drum notes as we tried endless new approaches to songs which now feel so easy; Tom’s incredible and surreal portraits (at least the ones we could publish….); my endless lists – best of all the crucial ‘OK Computer test’. A lot of pub gigs and setlists and photos and notebooks and discarded lyrics and rehearsing and big plans and big disappointments. I find it very emotional to realise how long the road was, how much work and desire went into what sounds like a fairly simple album, and most of all how much we worked together and supported each other with a steely determination for years and years….until eventually, miraculously, we saw our album sitting in the racks at HMV on Oxford Street.

To celebrate the release of Hopes and Fears: Lyrics and History and the end of 2024, we’re opening a pop-up shop in London. We will be selling the book, some new merch items to go alongside its release – some of which will be exclusive to the shop as well as some remaining tour merchandise and music. Jon Stone who has travelled with us and photographed us for much of this year will also be selling some of his favourite prints which will be hung in the space.
The pop-up shop will be at 25 Denmark Street and open from 12-9pm from 28th November to 1st December, 2024.
