The new issue of Q Magazine has just hit the shelves in the UK, featuring a very special triple gate-fold cover. It highlights Q's Artists of the Century which, we're pleased to say, include Mr Tom Chaplin of Keane.
Q Editor Paul Rees had the following to say about this end of the decade issue: “All of the 34 artists who feature on the cover of the Artists Of The Century issue are there because they have significantly shaped or connected with our readers’ lives during the past 10 years – and as such they represent a reflection of the breadth and diversity of Q’s musical world. It took us a year to put together the Artists Of The Century issue, but I think the end result makes all that time and effort more than worth it.”

Tom Chaplin is the best singer of the new generation of bands and singers in general! no other today compares to his voice and interpretation! Surely they should have putted Tim (whos an amazing songwritter) and Richard the (ideal drummer to Keane) on the cover too, that's a mistake of the magazine, but Tom is there to represent Keane and that's what matters!

Congratulations Keane! I would have loved to see the whole band there in the photo but I guess Tom is representing the band. Now is it just me or is a century 100 years? They are obviously alluding to this century of course, but then they could've called it "Artists of the Decade" or "Artists of the Century So Far"......I was expecting a real eclectic mix of very old and brand new. :-)

I agree with you Gudrun! where are al the important and influential female artists? WEll, Q isn't really a good representation of what headline they have. Artists of the century? More like "artists who have sold the most, of the century" ...that doesn't necessarily mean its good....BUT, congrats to Keane anyway!

I think I know why they didn't put Richard and Tim on the photo too. I think it's because there are only the people interviewed in the magazine who were photographed. If you look at what's written above the names, you'll read "24 NEW INTERVIEWS INCLUDE" and the names following correspond to all the people below. They interviewed only Tom so they just photographed him and only wrote his name (the same for Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day)

I totally understand your point! However, think that we will have another Q magazine issue next month, and the month after that and so one and so forth and the covers will be what THEY think is relevant! Is that really important? however, I love this word... "hopes and fears", "under the Iron sea" and "perfect symmetry" will last forever!!!! That's what really matters, their music, their love for each other and their bond! I'm happy enough for that. Cheers
I could not help noticing how many male artists are featured on this cover and only a few female ones. That does tell something important about the music business in general. THAT upsets me, and not why only Tom is on the cover and the other members of Keane are not.

Okay, I figure it like this. They seem (to me) to be men with integrity, so if Richard, Tim and Jesse were offended - would Tom not have declined to be on the cover by himself? But I do agree that it would have been nice to see his picture at the front.

Congrats! The only thing that bothers me is that Tim and Richard aren't included (as well as the rest of Green Day, the rest of the Killers, etc.)...but it's only a magazine. It doesn't mean that Tim and Richard and everyone else not included aren't equally amazing musicians and artists! :)

I love most of the artists mentioned in that list and of course Keane is an esential part of IT!! I mean seriously, their music sounds like no other and Tim's lyrics are just mind blowing, they get me everytime. Tom's voice? No words exist to describe it. These three guys were meant to make music together that's for sure. I think the journalist made a mistake when he was listing the artists (Like you all said, it should've been Keane, but after all, we are only humans) so the only thing left to say is... Even without it, I would've immediately recognized Tom ^^ I also looked for Tim and Richard but I quickly understood only the frontmen were on the photo to represent their bands (Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, Chris Martin from Coldplay, Paul McCartney from The Beatles - though anyway there wouldn't have been all of them -...), maybe it was because there would've been too many people and the picture would've been too large ? @_Marinaaa I understand what you mean, but they also wrote "Tom Chaplin" on the cover (look at the pic), why not Keane? as if Tom is successful as a solo artist.. Tom is great don't get me wrong, but I don't think he IS Keane.. They wrote U2, they wrote Kinds of Leon... they could have written Keane too which would actually make sense! That's my opinion anyway...

I think they chose Tom instead of Tim to represent the band coz he's the one people who aren't fan can recognize the most easily. I mean, the singer is always the most known person of a band.
